This mom is devastated after the hospital where she gave birth to a healthy newborn baby boy mixed her baby up with another and performed surgery on him! See what happened…
CBSNews.com says that shortly after giving birth to a healthy newborn baby boy at a Lebanon, Tennessee hospital, this mom thought that the doctors took her baby to perform a physical – but they took him to surgery! They mixed up this baby with another baby that was supposed to go to surgery!
They reportedly brought the baby back to the mother a couple of hours later and the nurses informed the mother that during the surgery, “they had clipped his tongue.”
The mom said:
“Essentially they took our child who was healthy from the room and cut his mouth. At that point I began to cry hysterically.”

The doctors performed a “frenulectomy, which involves cutting a flap of skin from under the child’s tongue. The procedure is a treatment for infants born with a condition that restricts the tongue’s range of motion.” This woman’s baby was healthy and his tongue was normal though.
The family’s attorney said:
“There is no excuse on operating on the wrong baby, none.”
The hospital admitted that they had made a mistake and the doctor who performed the surgery said:
“… I had asked for the wrong infant. I had likely performed the procedure on an infant different than the one I intended to … and I admitted my mistake and apologized.””
The mom is concerned about the long-term effects that the surgery could have on her baby. The family attorney said:
“We don’t know if the child will have speech problems or eating problems. The concern here is this was a healthy baby that was supposed to leave the hospital, but instead was harmed by the hospital.”
